ABOUT
Yvonne’s handmade sculptural ceramics explore the beauty of the curve. Her starting point is the flow of the hand - to create work that is tactile with a sense of tranquillity. Using hand-building techniques and traditional slip-casting process, Yvonne is able to repeat forms, making solo pieces that also complement each other in pairs.
Ancient glazing methods result in individually finished, unique effects. Raku is a 16th century Japanese firing technique. Red-hot work is lifted out of a blazing gas-fired outdoor kiln, thrust into sawdust, creating lustrous glazes and crackles.
Smoke-firing dates back over 30 000 years. Here a smouldering fire leaves delicate traces on smooth porcelain surfaces.
Yvonne makes her own glazes for work that is fired in an electric kiln.
Yvonne fell in love with ceramics in her teens. She was lucky enough to be mentored at Prema Arts Centre in Gloucestershire where she grew up. Alongside her life-long passion for all-things clay, she has enjoyed a varied career in arts marketing and event management. Yvonne works from her studio in Bath, where she is also an organiser of Bath’s annual Bear Flat Artists Art Trail and Christmas Art Fair.
